158,654 lbs of Household Hazardous Waste were collected from Grand Traverse County Residents in 2018.  

2019 Household Hazardous Waste Event Dates: 

  • Thursday May 9 - 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm 
  • Thursday June 20 - 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm 
  • Thursday August 8 - 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm 
  • Saturday September 28 - 9:00 am - 2:00 pm  
Hazardous Waste from a Household
  • Appointments are REQUIRED. Appointments will not be accepted until approximately one month before each event. Please use the appointment tool below
  • Grand Traverse County residents may dispose of 150 pounds of hazardous materials at no charge. A $1.30/pound fee will be charged for quantities greater than 150 pounds.

Hazardous Waste from a Business, Organization, School, etc. (Very Small Quantity Generators VSQGs)

An organization qualifies as a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) IF:

  • No more than 220 pounds (or about 25 gallons) of hazardous waste is generated in a given calendar month AND
  • No more than 220 pounds of hazardous was is accumulated in a given month.

Michigan Clean Sweep Program (Pesticides) 

The Michigan Clean Sweep Program helps protect the State's natural resources and prevent agriculture pollution by ensuring the safe and proper disposal of outdated, unused or unwanted pesticides in Michigan.

Grand Traverse County participates in the Clean Sweep Program and accepts pesticide products from all Michigan residents, agri-businesses, and farms without fee.
